Tip-yip

Endorian chickens, referred to as "tip-yip" within the Ewokese language, were a type of bird species native to the forests found on Endor. The Ewoks raised these domesticated creatures mainly as a source of food, valuing their meat for its delicious flavor.

Anatomy

These chickens, a non-sentient fowl species from the verdant moon of Endor which orbits the planet Tana, possessed a distinct anatomy. They featured slender legs, each with three clawed toes and a spur-like projection at the rear of the foot. In addition, they displayed fluffy crests of feathers, diminutive wings, and a feathered tail.

The chickens in culture

The Ewoks, a race of small, intelligent aliens from Endor, raised these chickens for consumption. Their meat was renowned for its delectable taste, even beyond Endor, according to Dexter Jettster, a Besalisk chef. During the last ten years of the Galactic Republic, Jettster offered both Endorian chicken pot pie and fried Endorian chicken at his eatery, Dex's Diner, situated in CoCo Town on Coruscant.

The Imperial All Terrain Scout Transport walker acquired the nickname "chicken walker" due to its resemblance to this creature. "Tip-yip" served as the Ewokese designation for this species.

Behind the scenes

The live-action birds showcased in the 1984 television movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure bore resemblance to Silkies and Polish chickens, breeds known for their bouffant crests of feathers or fur-like plumage. The Endorian chicken also appeared in the Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide, presented as a term for communicating with the Ewoks.
