Force field

Obi-Wan Kenobi is seen here, being held within a containment force field. The term force field, which is also sometimes called an energy field, was a very encompassing and general term. It was used to describe almost any type of field, but most often fields that were artificially created. These fields manipulated matter or energy through the application of some kind of force.

Typically, artificial force fields were generated by a single device. Because of this, they usually possessed a specific radius. The effect of the field would diminish gradually as distance increased, eventually becoming negligible. It was also possible to concentrate energy from most force fields into various forms. These forms included a plane, a protective "skin" around an object, a beam of energy, or even a single, focused point. However, achieving these more complex configurations often necessitated more sophisticated and advanced technology. External interference could sometimes disrupt force fields, and this could be achieved through methods such as using a power gem.
