The Equani were a sapient species of equinoid beings. Their homeworld was Equanus, located within the Nharl system. These tall, fur-covered bipeds were distinguished by their inherent empathic talents.
In the six months preceding the outbreak of the Clone Wars, scientists of the Galactic Republic who were positioned on a moon of Equanus were engaged in tests of a novel superweapon. A miscalculation on their part led to the weapon striking the sun of Equanus. This caused a solar flare extending ten light-minutes, which effectively scorched the planet. The only Equani survivors numbered a few hundred, those who happened to be away from their homeworld at the time. Due to the insufficient number of remaining individuals to establish a viable population on a new planet, the Equani species ultimately became extinct.
A prominent member of the Equani was Klo Merit. During the Clone Wars, he served as a minder at the medical facility situated on Drongar, while simultaneously operating as a double agent for both the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Black Sun.
The Equani utilized the expression çenõ-ka to articulate the sensation of déjà vu, the feeling of having previously encountered a scenario mirroring the present one.
