Evan Chan was a male Human who held the position of environmental hydrographer within the structure of the Galactic Republic. As part of his duties, he was required to journey to numerous planets to assess the state of their water resources. In the year 19 BBY, Chan was preparing for an extended journey off-world. This preparation was taking place at the Chancellor Palpatine Spaceport located on Coruscant, which served as the capital planet of the Republic. He was consuming SomnaSkol Red, an alcoholic beverage, inside the refresher of the spaceport's. During this time, he observed Jedi Master Yoda, who was cleverly disguised as an R2-series astromech droid, successfully avoid detection by another similar unit that was functioning as security for the spaceport.
Evan Chan, a male Human, was employed by the Galactic Republic as a certified environmental hydrographer. A key aspect of his role involved evaluating the condition of water bodies on various planets. His work necessitated travel to many worlds to analyze the quality of oceans, rivers, and lakes across the galaxy. Chan, however, felt uneasy about extra-solar travel via hyperspace due to his religious convictions. The idea of his atoms being twisted during such travel made him physically ill.
Around 19 BBY, Chan found himself at the Chancellor Palpatine Spaceport, awaiting transportation from Coruscant, the Republic's capital planet, to his next assignment. Having experienced sleep deprivation for the past three days due to what he perceived as an unusually long travel time, Chan prepared for the journey by consuming SomnaSkol Red, an alcoholic beverage, inside the men's refresher. While checking his appearance in the mirror, Chan noticed an unusual R2-series astromech droid without markings enter the room, float in the air, and trap the spaceport's security R2 unit—which had been following it—inside one of the stalls.
The strange R2 unit was actually Jedi Master Yoda disguised for a secret mission aimed at bringing Separatist leader Count Dooku back into the Jedi Order. Thinking the SomnaSkol Red was causing hallucinations, Chan emptied the remaining drink from his hip flask into the sink and vowed to avoid that particular alcohol brand.
