Evinn Dastt

A male pilot named Evinn Dastt, a Human, fought for the Rebel Alliance's starfighter corps.

Biography

Dastt served as an X-wing starfighter pilot for at least four years during the Galactic Civil War. He relished starfighter combat, calling it "The Show" and characterizing it as a state of "pure adrenaline, pure instinct." His skills extended beyond X-wings; he also flew combat airspeeder patrols during ground-based operations. He also claimed proficiency with landspeeders, speeder bikes, and swoops. Confident in his combat prowess, he believed his abilities would soon bring him fame. While acknowledging the dangers of combat, he typically spoke of it as a threat to his adversaries, saying things like, "when I get irked, other people get shot down."

It's possible Dastt knew Han Solo and Platt Okeefe, smugglers sympathetic to the Rebel cause, or at least knew of their reputations as skilled pilots of modified light freighters. Dastt was also acquainted with Airen Cracken, the Alliance's Chief of Intelligence, whom he admired for earning his position through active duty, rather than "pushing datacards and routing supplies."

The bounty hunter Tirog knew Dastt well enough to ask him to instruct some novices in basic flight techniques. Dastt embraced his role as a flight instructor, teaching everything from basic combat maneuvers to the process of acquiring a starship. During these lessons, he emphasized the vital connection between a starship and its pilot, stating that in a crisis, a starship would be "your mother, your brother, and your best friend." He also suggested that a well-maintained ship could even develop a "personality."

Behind the scenes

Evinn Dastt is among the characters featured in Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded, designed to introduce players to both the game and the Star Wars universe. While Dastt and the other characters remain in character, he also "breaks the fourth wall" by directly addressing the readers to explain the game's rules. Dastt introduces the chapters most relevant to a Rebel pilot's experience: "Movement and Chases," "Space Travel and Combat," "Vehicles," and "Starships."

The precise timeline of the in-universe text within the Revised and Expanded rulebook remains unclear. It must occur early enough in the Galactic Civil War that characters still refer to the Rebel Alliance instead of the New Republic, yet late enough that Dastt has been piloting an X-wing for roughly four years. This could indicate that Dastt was among the first Alliance pilots to fly an X-wing following the liberation of the initial four prototypes during the Battle of Fresia (as depicted in the video game Star Wars: Empire at War).

Originally, Evinn Dasst was intended to be identified as a Rebel pilot appearing in 1980's Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back within the Rogues Gallery article "Clearance for Immediate Launch" in Star Wars Insider 146, which focused on Rebel Alliance Pilots. However, a last-minute change of images led to its removal from the final publication.
