The Excluder, crafted by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc., functioned as a sonic repellent. This portable apparatus generated high-pitched sound waves, imperceptible to Human hearing, along with that of numerous other alien species, effectively repelling various creatures. Nevertheless, certain species, for instance, Wookiees, were susceptible to its effects. The Merr-Sonn Excluder featured a trio of adjustable settings, each establishing a disruptive field spanning 10, 20, or 40 meters.

On a mission to Hethar, a small Rebel team, which included Homack, utilized these excluders. When four sentries detected approaching shredder bats, they deployed the devices to disorient the creatures before eliminating the hazardous predators.
