Expansionist Period
The period of time following the establishment of the Galactic Republic, characterized by the opening of transit between the Core Worlds due to the invention of the hyperdrive and the Republic's initial outward growth, is referred to as the Expansionist Period, also known as the Expansion Era, Galactic Expansion Era, or Expansion Era. Simultaneously, the Tion Hegemony flourished as a proud civilization, with most of the planets within the Allied Tion sector being populated during this epoch.
During this same time frame, the Myneyrsh–Psadan wars as well as the Wayland colonial war were both fought on the planet Wayland.
Timeline of the Expansionist Era
- 25,053 BBY Corellian scientists successfully reverse-engineered Rakatan hyperdrive technology, leading to an outward migration from the Core Worlds as their inhabitants began to colonize the known galaxy.[1] The Galactic Constitution is signed, thus establishing the Galactic Republic, and Coruscant is designated as the capital of the new governing body.[1]
- 25,000 BBY The Perlemian Trade Route is established, creating a link between Coruscant, Ossus, and the Tion Cluster.[2] The charting of the Corellian Run solidifies Corellia's economic stronghold within the burgeoning Republic; the Corellian Run marks the southern boundary of the Slice.[2] Republic scouts encounter the Jedi Order on Ossus, and Jedi Master Haune Tiar accompanies them back to the Republic. After several weeks of deliberation, the Order commits to serving the Republic.[7] Queen Rana Mas Trehalt, spurred by the development of hyperdrive technology, initiates a large-scale colonization effort from Duros; one of the planets colonized is Neimoidia,[2] settled by a group of Duros under the leadership of Chla C'cHaan. (Approximate date)[8] Jedi Master Sar Agorn takes Cope Shykrill as his Padawan; however, Shykrill succumbs to the dark side of the Force and is defeated. (Approximate date)[9]
- 24,500 BBY The Jedi Order experiences the First Great Schism, a conflict with the Legions of Lettow, Jedi members who sought to harness the dark side, which the Jedi Order forbade. Xendor, the leader of the Legions, initially requested permission to found an academy for the study of Force techniques that the Jedi had outlawed; upon denial, he established the Legions on Lettow, prompting the Order to declare war.[10] Xendor perishes at Columus during the Schism, and the conflict concludes shortly thereafter when the Order invades Lettow.[10]
- 24,000 BBY The Tionese War erupts: the Tionese people unite as the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion and launch an attack on the Republic, pushing down the Perlemian Trade Route. The Republic begins construction of warships in Core shipyards, but the Tionese advance into the Republic's core, bombing many planets. The Republic ultimately repels the Tionese through a desperate counterattack by numerous Core systems, triggering a series of offensives and counteroffensives that span approximately a century.[10]
- 23,900 BBY The Tionese War concludes as the Republic inflicts devastation upon the worlds of the Tion Cluster; the Republic's sterilization of Desevro, however, causes the Jedi to sever ties with the Republic.[10] The Republic enters into negotiations with the Jedi, who eventually consent to act as the Republic's guardians.[10]
- c. 23,643 BBY Uphrades undergoes a period of intense volcanic activity, resulting in exceptionally fertile soil many millennia later.[11]
- c. 22,800 BBY A Jedi scout, guided by the Force, ventures into the Unknown Regions and discovers the crystal planet of Ilum, which soon becomes a significant religious center for the Jedi Order.[2]
- c. 22,000 BBY The planet Nubia is populated.[12]
- 20,100 BBY By this point in time, the majority of the Colonies and the Inner Rim have been settled.[2]
- 20,000 BBY The Expansionist Era draws to a close, and the Great Manifest Period begins.[2]
