Field Commander

Field Commander Images of both Imperial and Rebel Field Commanders. Field commanders were vital to any ground campaign, as they enhanced the morale and tactical effectiveness of all ground troops under their leadership. The Yuuzhan Vong warrior caste also utilized this rank.

Selected from the most outstanding individuals throughout the galaxy, field commanders received their training at Imperial military academies situated within the Core Worlds. Their armor was typically minimal, consisting of a helmet and vest for basic defense.

History

One Imperial field commander was dispatched to Thyferra with the mission of locating the renegade Moff Kalast. However, due to the commander's failure to ensure a discreet landing, Kalast successfully evaded capture. As consequence of this blunder, Darth Vader carried out the commander's execution.

No fewer than seventeen Imperial commanders were in attendance during the demonstration of the AT-AT by Colonel Maximilian Veers. These commanders became involved in combat as a result of an incursion by Rebel forces.

Another commander was responsible for overseeing the defense of a Tibanna gas refinery during a raid. Because of his inability to repel the attacking forces, Darth Vader executed him.

Behind the scenes

Within the game Star Wars: Empire at War, field commanders bolster the health and extend the sight range of all units in their vicinity. This effect could be interpreted as the commander's presence boosting overall morale.
