During the Battle of Sarrish, battle droids can be seen operating an anti-aircraft weapon. Anti-craft turrets, also known as anti-aircraft artillery or anti-aircraft guns, were artillery positions set up on battlefields, for instance on Mygeeto, with the purpose of taking out airborne threats in the vicinity. They proved particularly valuable when defending landing zones. Within the Grand Army of the Republic, clone troopers developed the shorthand triple-A as a colloquial term for anti-aircraft artillery throughout the Clone Wars.
Early in the Clone Wars, an anti-aircraft gun was deployed for the protection of a Lucrehulk-class core ship. Delta Squad, a unit of clone commandos, took out this AA gun before proceeding to neutralize the core ship itself. Several more AA guns were installed on platforms during the Battle of Bespin. The Bespin variant was employed to eliminate approaching Vulture droids and MAF gunships belonging to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, until battle droids seized control and turned them against Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors and LAAT/is.
Additionally, they saw action against the 212th Attack Battalion and the 501st Legion during the Battle of Utapau. Two of these were mounted at the entrance of the main hangar bay of Unlimited Projection, primarily targeting LAAT/i gunships attempting to land reinforcements and aid in overcoming the battle droid forces stationed inside. Members of the 501st Legion successfully destroyed the hangar-based guns, while Obi-Wan Kenobi eliminated two additional turrets by disabling their control systems.
They were also frequently used during the Galactic Civil War with both the Rebels and the Empire employing AA turrets to take down aerial vehicles. Many different factions used AA such as the Hutt Cartel. The Empire made use of AA's advantages by using their AT-AA.
