Obi-Wan Kenobi is pictured here, held within a containment field of force.
The term force field, which is sometimes referred to as an energy field, was generally used to describe a wide variety of fields, most often those that were artificially created, where matter or energy underwent manipulation by some kind of force.
Typically, these artificial force fields were generated by a single device. As a result, they usually possessed a specific radius. The effect of the field would gradually diminish until it became insignificant as distance increased. The energy from most force fields could be focused into various configurations, such as a flat surface, a protective layer around an object, a concentrated beam, or even a singular point. However, achieving such configurations often necessitated more sophisticated technology. External factors could occasionally disrupt force fields, for instance, the application of a power gem.
