A location beacon, also designated as a locator, was a personal piece of technology. It operated in a manner similar to a homing beacon, by emitting a signal that enabled tracking of the device's position. Many clone troopers belonging to the Grand Army of the Republic, including individuals like Clone Captain Rex and the trooper known as Tup, were equipped with locators as standard gear on the battlefield.
Certain models of datapads incorporated an integrated locator functionality. Furthermore, there existed military-grade locators engineered to transmit a signal through almost any material, except for substantial quantities of lead or an Imperial jamming field.
