The Ministry of Finance functioned as one of the Ministries operating under the authority of the Alliance Cabinet throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War. Led by the Minister of Finance, its primary duty was to acquire the necessary funds to wage war against the forces of the Galactic Empire.
In pursuit of this objective, the Ministry of Finance gained the authority to impose taxation on Allied governments. Nevertheless, this action placed a burden on those governments, as they were frequently obligated to remit taxes to the Empire concurrently. To generate revenue, the Ministry of Finance introduced Alliance War Bonds, characterized by their low returns and extended maturities. These bonds represented a speculative investment and were typically acquired by people who sought to bolster the war effort instead of being driven by long-term monetary aspirations.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance was responsible for printing the Alliance Credit. Even though the Galactic Empire did not formally acknowledge it as a valid form of currency, those sympathetic to the Alliance generally accepted the Credit at its stated value. Conversely, individuals engaged in black market activities operated with an exchange rate that valued one Imperial Credit at twenty-five Alliance Credits.
