A flechette torpedo explosion. A novel armament, the flechette torpedo, came into existence specifically for the Battle of the Corellian Queen. These projectiles held sharp pieces of durasteel surrounding a standard explosive core. Upon detonation, the torpedoes created a cloud of fragments, posing a threat to approaching TIE Defenders that lacked particle shields capable of deflecting physical matter.
New Republic forces employed these weapons not only to obliterate enemy vessels, but also to monitor the TIEs that evaded destruction. The fleeing fighters unknowingly carried remnants of the flechette torpedoes embedded within their titanium-enhanced hulls. This debris contained a vast number of solid-state transponders, activated by a unique subspace signal. These transponders, the brainchild of Wedge Antilles, enabled the NRDF to pinpoint Lord Shadowspawn's hidden base on Mindor.
Eventually, the Imperials succeeded in copying the technology, integrating it into the weaponry of their TIE/IT Interdictor starfighter series.
