Flight
A wingpair of Z-95 Headhunters
The term flight, which can also be referred to as a flight element or a wingpair, represented the most fundamental and compact organizational structure within a starfighter squadron. This configuration, consisting of a duo of starfighters along with their respective pilots, formed the essential leader-wingmate partnership. This arrangement was designed to optimize the prospects of survival during a starfighter engagement. When two flight elements worked together, they constituted a larger flight; the hierarchical standing among the flight elements was typically inconsequential, as they frequently rotated positions during active combat scenarios.
