When a Jedi installed focus crystals within their lightsaber (as used by the Jedi), these crystals helped them maintain a stronger connection to the Force, especially during periods of intense Force usage. In 1 BBY, the clone of Galen Marek located a focus crystal on the planet Dagobah. The type of crystal used influenced the blade's characteristics. For example, Kasha crystals, originating from Cerea, the homeworld of Ki-Adi-Mundi, were known to enhance Force attunement and meditation. Besides those from Ilum, other crystals included:

• Bondar crystals: Resulted in a blade with reduced power.
• Solari crystals: Created a blade of increased width.
• Kathracite: Generated a blade that delivered a stunning effect instead of a fatal cut.
