Food rations

Food rations, sometimes called field rations, or simply "rations", represent a portable form of ready-to-consume sustenance. They were utilized by numerous military organizations across the galaxy throughout its history.

History and types of rations

During the era of the New Sith Wars, certain species participating in the Battle of Ruusan employed plastic containers adorned with hieroglyphic symbols. Some of these boxes held grub-like organisms suspended in a brown sauce. The "meal" was preserved indefinitely using stasis field technology or similar means, and the organisms were revived upon opening the box by activating a panel. Some of these containers were interred within the Valley of the Jedi and remained functional a millennium later.

Clone commandos were provisioned with ration packs. These packs were also included within survival kits, most notably field kits.

During the Imperial Period, Stormtroopers utilized self-heating Stormtrooper rations.

Rebel pilots also carried a selection of ration packs within their starfighters as a contingency in case of being stranded on a planet. These rations were stored within a blue container featuring eleven slots: seven at the bottom, three rectangular slots at the top, and a slender slot in the middle. The food included a large, yellow, square-shaped object; a rectangular bar also called a Ration BarĀ ; several bits of small tan pieces; a large stick; several medium-sized sticks; small rolls; small brown pieces; white pieces; orange pieces; tiny sticks; a small, yellow, square-shaped object; and white rolls. Yoda sampled a fragment of Luke Skywalker's ration, but immediately spat it out in disgust. These rations were also abundantly stocked on cruisers and freighters, capable of lasting for extended durations. Furthermore, there existed designated Empire and Rebellion "field rations."
