Force Wind, a power rooted in the dark side of the Force, gave its wielder the capacity to control and direct air currents, enabling the generation of devastating whirlwinds.
In their confrontation on Cloud City, Darth Vader displayed his greater mastery over the Force by conjuring a powerful gust that dragged Luke Skywalker towards a reactor shaft within the city, thus gaining an edge in the fight.
The concept of Force-based wind manipulation was initially presented in The Empire Strikes Back novelization and subsequently in the 1980 film, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, during the Cloud City duel. Yet, its origin remained unclear, leaving it uncertain whether the wind was a natural occurrence or a deliberate act by Vader. It was The Empire Strikes Back radio drama (1983) that first clarified Vader's role in creating the wind, drawing a parallel to his use of telekinetic assaults in the same encounter. Later, The Jedi Academy Sourcebook (1996) formally categorized Force Wind as a Dark Side ability within the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
