Forum:Citing dates in the Old Republic era
A brief message from Fiolli
Greetings, participants involved in the KotOR WookieeProject.
While this might not be the ideal location, I wanted to make this point where most project members would see it. I aim to bring attention to a recurring issue in Featured Article (FA) and Good Article (GA) nominations concerning articles related to this project. Those of us familiar with the KotOR-era canon may easily overlook the proper citation of dates, attributing them directly to the two games. I want to emphasize that this type of citation is unacceptable, as it is inaccurate. The dates 3,956 BBY and 3,951 BBY are often incorrectly attributed to KotOR and TSL, respectively. The games themselves do not explicitly state these dates. These dates have been provided or implied by other sources, including official and semi-official websites, as well as continuity discussions. Now that we have The New Essential Chronology, The New Essential Guide to Droids, Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide, and The Essential Atlas available, we possess multiple canon sources that give definitive dates and their chronological order. Please make use of these resources.
Thank you, everyone, and keep up the excellent work.

Comments and questions
Understood, thanks Fiolli. A quick question: Which of the sources you mentioned are appropriate for KotOR1, and which for TSL? Do you have a specific source you would recommend? SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is the truth) 04:38, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
- If I recall correctly, the KOTOR Campaign Guide includes the year for both KOTOR games. -- Tm_T (Talk) 05:51, September 26, 2010 (UTC) Also, The Essential Atlas provides a good overview of the Jedi Civil War. Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force offers dates for certain specific events.
To expand the list of potential sources: Message to Spacers 9 on Wizards.com (backup link) (the original site is no longer active) provides the year 3951 BBY for the Exile's encounter with the Zhug brothers on Dxun by referencing their crash on the moon. --Tm_T (Talk) 05:51, September 26, 2010 (UTC)
- I'm pleased that this was brought up. For instance, I would find it difficult to accept a date for this encounter if it were cited as the NEC or Atlas when neither the NEC nor the Atlas mentions the Zhugs. It's important to note that the source should explicitly mention the specific event. If this is not possible, then include a footnote explaining that "although the ___ is not mentioned in ___, it occurs in Knights of the Old Republic between ____ and ____, which are both cited as _____ BBY in _____." — Fiolli 19:43, October 4, 2010 (UTC) Absolutely, and in the case of this Message to spacers 9 article, it clearly states the year, the event, and the individuals involved. Perfect! (: --Tm_T (Talk) 20:08, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
