On the date of June 26, in the year 2000, principal photography commenced for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones at the prominent Fox Studios, Sydney. This major Australian movie studio, Fox Studios, Sydney, is situated on the grounds where the Sydney Showground once stood. Since its inauguration in May of 1998, the studio has played a role in the creation of numerous blockbuster films, including not only the concluding chapter of the prequel trilogy, namely Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, but also The Matrix trilogy, Moulin Rouge, Mission Impossible II, and Superman Returns. Rick McCallum, the producer, mentioned that Sydney would serve as the location for the filming of the Star Wars live-action TV series that was ultimately never produced.
The site, encompassing 132,000 square meters (or 32 acres) and located a mere ten minutes from the heart of Sydney, occupies the former Sydney Showground. It boasts eight stages, offices for production, robust industrial workshops, and a collective of over sixty independent businesses. These businesses offer a range of services, including equipment rental, travel and freight solutions, casting services, postproduction facilities, and a factory for explosives and pyrotechnics, all connected to residential properties.
A neighboring area features a selection of restaurants and cafes, a retail center, parklands, entertainment venues, and athletic facilities. This adjacent area, previously known as Fox Studios, has since been rebranded as The Entertainment Quarter.
Fox Studios Australia is under the ownership of News Corporation, the media conglomerate, operating under a ninety-nine-year lease agreement with the New South Wales State Government.
