G1-M4-C Dunelizard fighter

The G1-M4-C Dunelizard, alternatively called the Medium Hutt Fighter, was a medium-weight starfighter created by the Hutts and manufactured by MandalMotors. It saw action during the period of the Galactic Civil War. The style 2 also had some limited use amongst Naboo's RSF forces, together with Kimogila, KSE Firespray class and Z-95 fighters. The Dunelizard received its name from the dune lizard creature.

Characteristics

A pair of Dunelizard fighters

The Dunelizard fighter's design was based on the M3-A Scyk fighter, and it kept the wedge-shaped wings of that ship, although the later version had several upgraded features.

The Dunelizard included greater shielding and carried a larger payload. However, it maintained the speed and maneuverability that made the Scyk a favorite among the Hutts and other criminal groups, including space pirates such as Erkon the Vile.

It was simple to repair and modify. The standard linked laser cannons could be swapped out for ion cannons, a concussion missile launcher, or a proton torpedo launcher. When a launcher was installed, it could hold 6 missiles or torpedoes.

Two distinct Dunelizard fighter designs are known: one is a larger, more elongated version featuring a bigger cockpit, while the other is a sleek, streamlined version with sweeping wings. Both were classified as G1-M4-C models. The second design was created by taking out the co-pilot's seat and adding an astromech slot. The slimmer design, along with the shorter, narrower wings, improved both visibility and access for the astromech droid. This version was also called the Type II Dunelizard.

History

MandalMotors first produced the Dunelizard following the Clone Wars. The design was offered to the Imperial Navy, but they turned it down. However, the Empire did permit the starfighter to be sold to other parties since they considered it a minor threat to Imperial forces. Consequently, it gained popularity among pirates and smugglers.
