The Gale Team represented a military contingent within the Rebel Alliance.
This unit came into existence following the destruction of the Kwuennox Smugglers, a criminal syndicate, by the forces of the Galactic Empire. The remnants of this organization, including their chief Ozik Poyiu, then aligned themselves with the Rebel Alliance, transforming the group into the Gale Team, a freighter unit serving the Alliance.
Shortly following the Wellte-ir Massacre, Poyiu's ability to lead the Gale Team diminished. While the majority of the team favored another ex-smuggler as Poyiu's replacement, Aven Cholus, a pilot who had survived the Wellte-ir Massacre, was instead elevated to the leadership position. Despite bringing her personal Anxarta-class light freighter, the Agent, her lack of a criminal past resulted in her unpopularity. Furthermore, Cholus lacked familiarity with the smugglers' operational methods. Overwhelmed by grief and self-reproach for the casualties at Wellte-ir, she oversaw a decline in the Gale Team's operational performance. Consequently, Cholus faced blame, demotion, and reassignment away from the Gale Team.
