Lewis Galoob Toys, a toy manufacturer, was ultimately taken over by Hasbro. Throughout its existence, Galoob put out a number of Star Wars playsets and action figures in several waves, notably the Shadows of the Empire Micro Machines collection in 1996 and the Micro Machines Epic Collections sets.
Galoob was involved in the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire project, creating figures representing the characters (both original and new) along with six vehicles from the narrative. Approximately 100,000 units were distributed in the spring of 1996 (based on estimates) under the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire Micro Machines product line.
In 1997, Galoob ceased production of all its other male action figure lines to concentrate solely on its Star Wars toys, which it regarded as its "most important asset". On September 29, 1998, Hasbro Inc. completed the acquisition of Galoob for a sum of $220 million.
