The Gannaria system, known for its spice production and the origin of Gannarian narco-spice, was situated within the Trilon sector of the Outer Rim Territories.
Exploration of the space encompassing the system occurred between 1000 BBY and 25 BBY. During the Clone Wars (22 BBY–19 BBY), not long after the Commerce Guild took control of the planet Ukio, the Gannaria system appeared on a galactic map on a viewscreen in a facility overseen by Passel Argente, who held the position of Magistrate within the Corporate Alliance.
Sometime between 14 BBY and 0 BBY, the Human smuggler Han Solo journeyed to the Gannaria system on behalf of a member of the Hutt species. Around 25 ABY, the system's population was less than a million inhabitants.
The Essential Atlas, a reference book written by Daniel Wallace and [Jason Fry]((/article/jason_fry), first mentioned the Gannaria system in 2009, locating it in grid square H-15. The system made its debut appearance in The Clone Wars: Act on Instinct, a webcomic by Pablo Hidalgo that was published on StarWars.com throughout the 2009–2010 run of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' second season.
