Gavryn, a planetary body, possessed a significantly strong magnetic field at one of its poles. Ensign Gilad Pellaeon initially made a name for himself while in command of a convoy escort mission headed towards the planet Gavryn. As the convoy approached orbit, they were ambushed by pirates. Pellaeon piloted his ship directly into the magnetic pole, effectively concealing it from the pirates' sensor systems. Once the pirate craft moved to intercept the convoy ships, Pellaeon emerged from the pole and eliminated the pirates. This act of prompt and intelligent decision-making resulted in the beginning of a series of advancements in his career.
