Leland Chee

Leland Chee, an employee of Lucasfilm, is the caretaker of the Holocron continuity database, which is a FileMaker database. On the old StarWars.com forums, he was a common participant, using the usernames "Tasty Taste" and "Leland Y Chee." Furthermore, he manages two additional FileMaker databases: the Indycron continuity database for the Indiana Jones world, and the LFLcron, which covers other Lucasfilm properties.

Following The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of Lucasfilm, Chee and creative executive Pablo Hidalgo were given roles within the newly established Lucasfilm Story Group. This group's primary objective was to consolidate the Star Wars canon, replacing its previous hierarchical structure with a single, unified continuity.

Dana Jennings, a writer for StarWars.com, is a friend of Chee's. Chee aided Jennings in writing an article by pointing out the presence of a Sullustan in a scene from Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

The character Lechee from Star Wars Resistance was named in honor of Chee. Before Fred Armisen was chosen for the part, he made a temporary recording of Lechee's lines.

Chee is the author of "Joh Blastoh," a Huttese song that shares its melody with the well-known song "Jingle Bells." This song was featured in the 2020 movie The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. Later, the complete song, along with its lyrics, was made available on the Star Wars YouTube channel.

Chee's Explanations of Discrepancies

  • In the Star Wars: Dark Empire series, Palpatine informs Luke Skywalker that the Battle of Endor wasn't his initial death and that he had initiated the transferring of his spirit into clone bodies years prior, due to his original body's deterioration from extensive dark side use. However, Chee clarified that Palpatine was deceiving Luke about previous deaths, asserting that his demise at Endor marked his first actual death, albeit not his last. Chee further explained that while Palpatine's clone bodies degrade due to the intense dark-side energy within them, his original body did not suffer the same degradation. He only needed to switch bodies regularly after his original body's destruction at Endor, necessitating the use of clone bodies. [9]
  • Chee provided an answer to a frequently debated question regarding the number of toes on the feet of Yoda's species. While some sources showed three and others ambiguously five, his official response in the "Ask Lobot" section of Star Wars Insider 122 specified four: three in the front and one in the back. [10]

Continuity Validated by Chee

Because George Lucas was considered the ultimate authority on continuity (referred to as G-canon at the time) within Star Wars, any mention by Lucas of a previously unknown canonical name, character, place, or thing would typically achieve that status. This outcome was often due to the addition of the item to the Holocron database, provided it hadn't already appeared in literature or other media.

Following Lucas's interview with Jon Stewart at Celebration V, where Lucas mentioned the existence of Stewjon and Skywalker wine, both were promptly added to the Holocron, as confirmed by Chee on his Twitter account.
