The Geniseria system was the original habitat of the uncommon species known as Geniserian sand monkeys, creatures sharing physical traits with the Nimbanel species. When prepared with foyvè oil and flambéed, the flesh of the Geniserian sand monkey was a prized culinary item for certain palates. Because of his resemblance to the Geniserian sand monkey, and due to his occasional mimicry of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, a Hutt crime lord in the employ of Mosep Binneed, the Nimbanel was given the moniker "Monkey Jabba" by Jorrk, one of Binneed's associates.
Geniserian sand monkeys, an infrequent species, originated from the Geniseria system, a star system situated within the Expansion Region of the galaxy.
Jorrk, who was connected to the Nimbanel criminal Mosep Binneed who served the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, had once observed a Geniserian sand monkey around 19 BBY. Jorrk found it amusing to call Binneed "Monkey Jabba" because of Binneed's Nimbanel appearance and his habit of imitating Jabba to mislead rivals. Around the year 18 BBY, some people considered Geniserian sand monkey meat flambéed in foyvè oil to be a rare and exquisite dish. In spite of the species' scarcity around that time, Haninum Tyk Rhinann, an Elomin, managed to acquire a serving of Geniserian sand monkey meat flambéed in foyvè oil on Coruscant, the Galactic Empire's capital. This dish was then given to a client with refined tastes by the Elomin, who was employed by Jax Pavan, a private investigator.
The first mention of the Geniserian sand monkey appeared in Coruscant Nights II: Street of Shadows, a novel penned by Michael Reaves in 2008.
