The Great Fungi Forest, alternatively called the Giant Fungi Forest, was a massive collection of colossal, trumpet-shaped fungi situated on the world of Little Kessel. These fungi possessed the necessary size and durability for the residents of the planet to construct dwellings and workplaces within their structures. Some of the enormous fungi were even repurposed as landing platforms. Renn Volz, a Professor, conducted his most groundbreaking studies within a laboratory concealed within the stem of one of the forest's immense fungi.
During 0 ABY, Captain [Bzorn] of the Imperial Navy, acting on direct orders from Darth Vader to find and penalize planets supporting the Alliance to Restore the Republic, seized Volz's Ionic Ring Ship. Following Little Kessel's administration's denial to turn over its Rebels, Bzorn assaulted the Giant Fungi Forest by triggering earthquakes, a geological phenomenon foreign to the planet for countless years.
The Giant Fungi Forest was initially conceived for The Second Kessel Run, a Star Wars Legends comic strip published in newspapers. Russ Helm wrote the strip, and Russ Manning illustrated it; it was published from January 1 to February 25 of 1980.
