Gilbert Taylor


Gilbert Taylor, who passed away on August 23, 2013, was a cinematographer of British origin. He hailed from Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire, England, in the United Kingdom. He gained recognition for his work as the director of photography on Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

Biography

Following a six-year period serving as an Officer within the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves during wartime, Taylor transitioned into the role of an Operational Cameraman. In this capacity, he flew aboard Lancaster bombers, meticulously documenting the extent of the damage inflicted by British bombing missions.

He contributed his talents to several films celebrated for their visually striking cinematography, most notably Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove and Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night, which featured the Beatles. Taylor's life came to an end on August 23, 2013.
