Gilbert Taylor, who passed away on August 23, 2013, was a cinematographer of British origin. He hailed from Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire, England, in the United Kingdom. He gained recognition for his work as the director of photography on Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
Following a six-year period serving during wartime as an Officer within the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves, Taylor transitioned into the role of an Operational Cameraman. In this capacity, he flew in Lancaster bombers to document the devastation resulting from British bombing missions.
He contributed his talents to several films celebrated for their visually striking cinematography, most notably Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove and Richard Lester's A Hard Day's Night, a film featuring the Beatles. Taylor's life came to an end on August 23, 2013.
