Gorog (creature)

The Gorog, a colossal creature, served as a combatant within the Tarko-se Arena situated on Cato Neimoidia. This massive, two-legged being was characterized by a stooped posture, a pair of humanoid hands complete with opposable thumbs, a dual-heart system, and a quartet of tusks extending from its lower mandible. Baron Merillion Tarko commanded the Gorog's release in a desperate attempt to thwart Galen Marek's clone from liberating Jedi General Rahm Kota from the arena, an action taken against the advice of an aide who voiced concerns regarding the arena's untested containment measures. This rash decision ultimately led to Baron Tarko's demise, as the indiscriminate giant brought about his end.

Attributes

The Gorog's immense size in comparison to Starkiller

The Gorog was a being of significant proportions. It possessed a robust and muscular torso and forearms, while its upper arms and legs exhibited a more skeletal structure. Its grayish, leathery hide stretched tautly over the bone, creating voids where the biceps or thighs of most humanoids would typically reside. Compared to the rest of its anatomy, its legs were diminutive and featured a hock-like ankle joint, lending them a more animalistic appearance in contrast to the humanoid qualities of its head and upper body. The Gorog's head displayed a humanoid face, complete with sharp teeth and four sizable bony tusks jutting from its lower jaw. A metal plate adorned its head, concealing a prominent scar, suggesting a prior surgical intervention aimed at restraint, further reinforced by chains and substantial electromagnetic shackles. Nevertheless, these measures proved insufficient to confine the gigantic creature.

History

The Gorog's homeworld remains a mystery, as does the question of whether more of its kind existed beyond the specimen housed within the Tarko-se Arena on Cato Neimoidia. According to the "Yorgalock," a religious text belonging to the Reegau tribesmen, the first Gorog was created by a deity seeking to fashion a being superior to itself. However, the Gorog crushed its creator in its fist and immediately began scouring the land for food. The text warned that the Gorog is the "end of all things" and that "only those that hide in his shadow will survive" .

Baron Merillion Tarko ordered its release to engage the clone of Galen Marek, disregarding the objections of a Neimoidian aide who pointed out that the restraining mechanisms designed to limit the creature's movement within the arena had not undergone comprehensive testing. Indeed, during the clone Marek's confrontation with the Gorog, he managed to ensnare its arms on multiple occasions, only for the creature to repeatedly break free from the restraints.

Starkiller clashed with the immense beast, quickly realizing its formidable strength. The Gorog attempted to crush him with its fists on several occasions, but the clone managed to restrain it briefly. However, after Starkiller assaulted the Gorog's head, the creature became enraged, broke free, and demolished the arena's support structures. Starkiller managed to escape and, together with Rahm Kota, confronted Baron Tarko. However, the Gorog shattered the platform they were on, killing the Baron, and seized General Kota. Subsequently, the Gorog plummeted into the arena. The entire structure collapsed under the creature's immense weight and also fell into the depths below.

Starkiller pursued the creature, and after a prolonged struggle during the fall, he managed to injure the Gorog. He then employed the Force to rupture the creature's torso, causing the Gorog to release Kota. Kota then used a device to call the Rogue Shadow and escaped with Starkiller. The Gorog then fell into one of Cato Neimoidia's canyons.

Boba Fett killing the Gorog

While tracking the trail of destruction left by Marek's clone, bounty hunters Boba Fett and Xasha discovered the severely wounded Gorog. The creature suddenly revived and, despite its existing injuries, aggressively attacked the two mercenaries. Fett, having scanned the creature, identified a second heart within the Gorog. Fett fired a back-mounted rocket at the Gorog's heart and used his jetpack to fly through the gaping wound in the creature's torso, finally killing the beast.

Behind the scenes

The Gorog facing Starkiller as seen in The Force Unleashed II teaser trailer

The Gorog made its initial appearance in the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, where it confronted Starkiller in a gladiatorial arena on Cato Neimoidia. However, its appearance in the trailer differed slightly from its final design in the game.

A French gaming magazine referred to this creature as a "morloch."

In the Star Wars: The Forced Unleashed II comic book adaptation, Boba Fett and Xasha locate the Gorog's remains amidst the debris within the suspended bridge city of Tarko-se. This contradicts other versions of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, which depict the creature falling from the city during its battle with Starkiller.

The third portion of the battle with the Gorog, which took place during its fall, was removed from the Wii version. Additionally, the Gorog was shown without its head covering in the Wii version.
