GPE-3130 Podracer
The GPE-3130 Podracer, a peculiar Podracer, was conceived by Galactic Power Engineering in the time before the Invasion of Naboo.
Characteristics
Galactic Power Engineering engineered the 3130, focusing on achieving maximum straight-line velocity. It was propelled by a duo of GPE ThrustMaster 9000 aerospike rocket engines. Supporting these engines were two smaller ramjets, which delivered brief bursts of acceleration and powered the Podracer's attitude thrusters. The cockpit featured a flat front, and the wedge-shaped engines, along with their outrigger-mounted ramjets, contributed to the Podracer's generally ungainly appearance. The rocket engines were notorious for demanding constant repairs, and their fuel was highly unstable and prone to detonation. The sheer power of the engine made it difficult to manage in turns, a problem that the attitude thrusters did little to alleviate. The craft's design, combined with the unintuitive control layout and the cockpit's uncomfortable seating, received almost universal negative reviews from critics.
History
Galactic Power Engineering introduced the 3130 as a cutting-edge model, launching an aggressive marketing strategy to increase its recognition. Despite their best efforts, the 3130 underperformed in the marketplace, failing to generate the anticipated substantial revenue. Due to these shortcomings, which kept the prices low, smaller racing teams acquired the Podracers due to their speed capabilities.
The Gran podracer Mawhonic piloted this particular model during the Boonta Eve Classic held in 32 BBY on Tatooine. Mawhonic's 3130 was performing admirably until Sebulba, one of his more formidable rivals, collided with him, sending him into a rock on the first lap. One of the smaller ramjets detached, causing Mawhonic to lose control and crash the vehicle in the desert.
In 1 ABY, as the Galactic Civil War intensified, a spacer came into possession of a podracer that bore a striking resemblance to the GPE-3130.
