A "Grand Dinner," known as a Granee Noopa in Huttese, was a specific type of event that Hutts would organize for their own amusement. The affair involved a series of trials, each structured to set individuals or groups in competition against one another. Invitations were distributed by the hosts to groups they deemed to be "up and coming."

Despite being known for their extreme lethality, invitations to a Granee Noopa were highly sought after and almost universally accepted. Refusing an invitation to a Granee Noopa was considered a major act of disrespect. Victorious groups could anticipate receiving substantial rewards in the form of credits and increased status. Those who lost but lived through the event would be enslaved by the Hutt whose side emerged victorious.

The Hutts themselves did not personally attend Granee Noopas. Instead, they dispatched intermediaries, referred to as boddah, to observe and direct the participants. One such Boddah was Venik Rin, a Zabrak of middle age.

Event Regulations

The rules governing the affair were fairly straightforward:

  • Upon arrival at a Granee Noopa, invited groups were prohibited from leaving the premises. Any participants attempting to depart prior to the closing ceremony faced either death or enslavement, depending on the whims of the Hutts. [1]
  • Participants were allowed to utilize any items and weapons they possessed; however, killing other attendees was only permitted during designated events, unless done in self-defense. [1]
  • Teams generally consisted of several individuals, but could also be composed of a single member. [1]

Trials Faced

The trials that contestants faced varied from one Granee Noopa to another, but some challenges appeared more frequently than others. These challenges often had ironic names and could include:

  • The Dance: Contestants enter an arena and are provided with a brief window of time to rapidly eliminate opposing contestants. Once the time elapses, all hostilities cease. [1]
  • The Dinner: The Dinner was generally regarded as the highlight of the Granee Noopa. Surviving contestants were placed in a large hall which was occupied by either a group of animals or a single large creature. The event concluded when all creatures or contestants were dead. If the contestants are successful in killing the beast(s), they would proceed to the closing ceremony. [1]

Ending Festivities

If only a single team managed to survive until the end of the event, they were declared the winner. In cases where multiple teams survived, the victor was determined by kill count and the number of casualties suffered (if teams were made up of more than one person). If this resulted in a tie, each team selected a single champion to engage in a fight to the death.

The spoils from one documented Grannee Noopa consisted of 10,000 credits for each team member in addition to an ardos disk.
