Greldo Farnor, hailing from Belnar, was a Khil who made his living as a vendor of droid components on Alderaan. The [destruction of Alderaan](/article/destruction_of_alderaan/legends] transformed him into a pirate and terrorist, opposing the Galactic Empire.
Farnor was off-planet on business in 0 BBY when Alderaan met its destruction, resulting in the deaths of his mate and children. Upon his return, discovering only asteroids and rubble where his home planet had been, the enraged Khil began a personal war against the Galactic Empire.
He turned to acts of terrorism and piracy, targeting defenseless freighters and scout vessels within Imperial territory. Even after the death of Galactic Emperor Palpatine during the Battle of Endor, Farnor continued his violent quest for vengeance in Imperial space. By 7 ABY, his vendetta had led him to destroy property and murder personnel belonging to the New Republic.
While Imperial authorities mistakenly believed him to be a New Republic operative, the New Republic itself viewed him as a significant threat. General Airen Cracken, the head of New Republic Intelligence, argued that Farnor's terrorism had pushed many neutral worlds to side with the Empire, and that his actions were sparking conflicts in areas where peaceful resolutions were achievable. Cracken offered a reward of 10,000 credits for anyone who could stop Farnor, ideally by capturing him alive, believing that Farnor could be reformed through counseling. Cracken also cautioned that the Empire would gain a propaganda victory if the New Republic failed to apprehend Farnor and he was killed by Imperial forces.
Farnor's ship, a heavily modified YT-1300 light freighter, was frequently sighted in the Borderland Regions that divided the Empire and the Republic. His standard equipment included a blaster pistol, a vibroblade, a blast vest, and a blast helmet.
