Hefi

Hefi, a planet with both landmasses and oceans on its surface, existed within the Hefi system of the Abrion sector. This sector was situated in the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. Its diverse climates were suitable for various forms of humanoid life.

Bevel Lemelisk, who designed the Galactic Empire's first Death Star battle station, once used Hefi as a secluded refuge. After the Death Star's destruction by the Rebel Alliance during the Battle of Yavin, Lemelisk, fearing Emperor Palpatine's wrath for his failure, sought shelter on Hefi. Imperial Intelligence agents located Lemelisk at his remote retreat, and the Emperor later executed him for his perceived incompetence. However, it was later suggested that this account might not be entirely accurate.

Behind the scenes

The 1990 sourcebook Galaxy Guide 5: Return of the Jedi from West End Games, authored by Michael Stern for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, was the first mention of the planet Hefi. Hefi was later featured as one of 200 playable planets in the 1998 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion. This game provided the only visual representation of the planet, which was also used to depict eleven other planets with similar characteristics. In 2009, the reference work The Essential Atlas situated the Hefi system, and consequently Hefi itself, within grid square S-15.

While initially presented as factual in Galaxy Guide 5: Return of the Jedi, the 1998 Star Wars Encyclopedia indicated that the narrative of Bevel Lemelisk hiding on Hefi following the Death Star's demise was "likely apocryphal, based on more recent findings." Yet, subsequent to that source, both 2000's A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Third Edition, Revised and Expanded and 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia once again presented the story as factual. This article, however, presents both versions of the story, essentially treating them as conflicting accounts.

Star Wars: Rebellion includes hyperspace travel times between all planets in the game. The following chart displays Hefi's intra-sector hyperspace travel times and its distance from Coruscant, the galactic capital, as determined by Star Wars: Rebellion using the game's fastest capital ship hyperdrive. This chart includes only those planets whose placement in the Abrion sector was considered canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity, with the exception of Coruscant.
