Hendar departed from the secure confines of his Undercity settlement at some point in 3956 BBY and entered regions plagued by rakghouls. While making his way back, a rakghoul chased him, and his wife, Hester, pleaded with Trewin, who guarded the gate, to unlock it and allow him entry. Trewin, hesitant to potentially expose the entire settlement to a rakghoul assault, regretfully declined. At that moment, the amnesiac Revan stepped in, deciding to go beyond the walls to assist the man. Revan and Carth Onasi's fighting abilities proved superior to the rakghoul, and Hendar was able to rejoin Hester, his wife.
Later, when Revan found sufficient proof for Rukil, the village's leader, to determine where the Promised Land was, he and the rest of the Outcasts set out for it. While the reason he ventured into the open Undercity was never explicitly stated, it is thought that he was probably hoping to find food or medicine from one of the Republic escape pods that had crashed in the vicinity.
If the player is too slow in defeating the rakghoul, it will overtake and kill Hendar. Hester, his wife, will yell at the player if they choose the dark side option and let him die.
Hendar's appearance is different in the Xbox version of the game.
