The astronomical body known as Hijo existed within the Hijoian system, which itself was a component of Hijoian Space within the Expansion Region's territory. By the year 12 ABY, the New Republic had gained control over this space. When Arack Dostryt, who held the position of Director of Recruiting for the Bounty Hunters' Guild, was writing a section for the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook edition published sometime between 19 BBY and 0 BBY, he included a fictional scenario. The purpose of this scenario was to demonstrate how bounty hunters could potentially earn multiple bounties by capturing the same individual.
The hypothetical story took place on Hijo, featuring a factory that manufactured featherbeds. The factory's owner had offered a bounty for the capture of a Glottalphib pyromaniac responsible for committing arson. While the Glottalphib managed to evade capture initially on Hijo, they later became a wanted individual in other areas of the galaxy.
Hijo's existence was first hinted at in The Essential Atlas, a reference book released in 2009 and co-authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, where it appeared as a label on map grid J-8. Later, in 2013, the book The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett, written by Wallace, Fry, and Ryder Windham, formally established Hijo as a distinct astronomical entity.
Even though the book referenced Hijo only within a hypothetical example presented in an in-universe document, Jason Fry has indicated that the star systems listed in the Appendix of The Essential Atlas are named after the most significant planets or celestial objects within those systems. Consequently, this article interprets the Hijoian system as being named after the astronomical object Hijo, assuming it existed within the Star Wars galaxy independently of its fictional depiction in the Bounty Hunters Guild Handbook.
