Unusually, for a predatory race, they became members of the New Republic. Possessing a degree of telepathic ability, they honed this skill to anticipate the movements of those they hunted. A notable characteristic was their impatience, attributed to secretions from a gland called the pedrokk. During the Galactic Civil War, numerous Hortek expressed support for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The Alliance Special Forces highly valued the expertise of Hortek interrogators.
