Hutt-Riileb conflict

Following the discovery of the sentient Riileb species on their planet of the same name by Nimbanese scouts, the Hutts launched multiple unsuccessful invasions of Riileb. Before this, the Nimbanese located the Riileb homeworld on the edge of Hutt Space and tried to convince the Riileb to become voluntary slaves of the Hutts. However, the insectoid Riileb people declined, which sparked the conflict. The Hutt forces, under the command of Velrugha, a Hutt, were defeated each time by the Riileb, leading them to abandon their attempts to conquer the planet. Velrugha then departed Riileb in search of easier species to dominate, and the Riileb maintained their freedom, becoming one of the few species in Hutt Space not under Hutt influence or control.

A shortened version of this article was republished in Alien Encounters in 1998, a compilation by Paul Sudlow that contained all the "Alien Encounters" articles.
