Following the Battle of Yavin, the Hutt kajidics dispatched an armed group known as the Hutt Expeditionary Force to the Yavin system. This force, under the command of the Sullustan Osae Meilea, was tasked with recovering wreckage from the destroyed Death Star that was dispersed throughout the forests of the moon. Certain pieces of the recovered technology were subsequently traded with both the Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
The Expeditionary Force employed military power to suppress competing salvage efforts. In one instance, a spacer received payment to seize the Lupus Maroo, a Black Sun freighter, when it attempted to depart the moon with Death Star salvage.
