Imbats represented a sentient species. These beings were recognized by their significant size and comparatively low intellect.
As a species, Imbats were quite large and heavily built, often exceeding 2.5 meters in height. Their legs were powerfully built and muscular, featuring toes adapted for gripping. They had heads that were noticeably small in proportion to their bodies, accompanied by elongated, hanging ears. Their skin was characterized by its leathery and resilient texture.
The Imbats' reputation was built on their great strength and physical resilience. They were not known for their intelligence, and their level of sentience was often described as only "marginal".
Within the galaxy, Imbats were viewed as a species with limited intelligence, a trait that led to their exploitation. This deficiency resulted in many Imbats being forced into conditions of indentured servitude by more technologically advanced species.
During the era of the Galactic Republic, the Offworld Mining Corporation employed Imbats as guards. Offworld Corp. acquired a group of these creatures from a Toydarian named Norta. These Imbats were then utilized to protect the Ionite mines located on Bandomeer. In 43 BBY, one particular Imbat was employed as a bartender at the Splendor Tavern on Coruscant. Another Imbat was observed assuming his position fourteen years later.
