Irtanna was a soldier in the Galactic Republic, specifically a Human female, and she became part of the Army of Light during the time of the New Sith Wars.
Around the year 1001 BBY, she, along with thousands of Jedi, was taken off of Ruusan just prior to the thought bomb being detonated by Skere Kaan, the Dark Lord of the Sith, during the Seventh Battle of Ruusan. Lord Valenthyne Farfalla himself chose her to head up the operation to find any surviving members of the Army of Light on Ruusan.
When Farfalla forbade Johun Othone, who had previously been the Padawan of Lord Hoth, from joining the rescue squads, Othone employed a mind trick on Irtanna, convincing her to allow him to join the team, going against Farfalla's instructions. Irtanna served as the pilot of the Star-Wake, an Envoy-class shuttle, during these rescue missions; the shuttle's crew also included Bordon and his sons, Tallo and Wend. Eventually, they encountered a young girl who appeared to be an orphan of the war. This girl, initially known as Rain, turned out to be Darth Zannah, the apprentice of Darth Bane, a Sith Lord. As the Star-Wake oriented itself to head back to the Republic fleet, Irtanna was startled by the sound of blaster fire coming from the shuttle's cargo hold. As she turned to investigate, Irtanna encountered Zannah wielding a Blaster; despite Irtanna's attempts to reason with her, Zannah fatally shot her. With the crew dead, Zannah commandeered the Star-Wake and set a course for Onderon.
