Jeremy Sinden

Jeremy Sinden as Tiree Jeremy M. Sinden, who lived from 1950 to 1996, was the performer who portrayed Dex Tiree in the motion picture Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

Biography

Born in London on June 14, 1950, Sinden was the son of the renowned actor Sir Donald Sinden (known for his role in Mogambo) and his wife, Diana Mahony. He had a younger sibling, Marc Sinden, who also became an actor (born in 1954).

Sinden's acting journey commenced in the 1970s, initially with guest roles in various TV series. Later, he secured more substantial roles, such as his part in Crossroads, and engaged in theatrical performances. He also wed Delia Lindsay in 1977, and together they had two daughters, Kezia and Harriet.

In the year 1977, Sinden took on the role of one of the Gold Squadron pilots in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Although his character met a swift end during the battle, the name caught the eye of several authors from the Expanded Universe, leading to the creation of a separate Tiree, an intelligence operative and adversary of the Imperial figure Mar Barezz. This version of Tiree survived the events.

Throughout the latter part of the 1970s, Sinden made appearances in a number of films and television shows, primarily as a guest performer, until the opportunity arose for him to return to the stage in the early 1980s. He balanced his theatrical work (French Without Tears, 1983; Spin of the Wheel, 1987) in London with guest appearances on television (a recurring character in Fairly Secret Army, or Lord Peter Wimsey), participation in mini-series (Fortunes of War, 1987; After the War, 1989), and occasional roles in films (Ascendancy, 1982; Madame Soutsatzka, 1988). He did not reprise his involvement in the Star Wars franchise in subsequent productions.

During the 1990s, Sinden maintained his pattern of guest appearances, mini-series roles, and film work. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to direct a theatrical production in 1992, staging Bulldog Drummond at the Nuffield Southampton in the UK. He also contributed extensively as a narrator for audiobooks.

Sinden passed away in London on May 29, 1996, due to lung cancer. His wife and daughters outlived him.
