Jev Sunrider, a Human male from the Human species, held the esteemed positions of Jedi Master and Watchman. He was responsible for the Darada system in the decades preceding the significant conflict known as the Great Sith War. Around 4008 BBY, Jev Sunrider departed from his family's residence on the planet of Darada. He embarked on a journey to the nearby system of Krayiss Two alongside three other Jedi Masters. Tragically, this endeavor resulted in the deaths of all four Jedi, who fell victim to a powerful dark side presence. Later, his Force ghost manifested before his grandson, Andur, revealing that Andur would have a crucial role in a future conflict.
Jev Sunrider, a Force-sensitive Human male, dedicated his life to the Jedi Order during the era of the Old Sith Wars. Throughout his time as a Jedi, Sunrider achieved the rank of Jedi Master and formed a close bond with fellow Jedi Master Chamma. He also served as the appointed Watchman of the Darada system, establishing his family's home on the planet Darada within that system. Jev was a constant presence during the childhood of his grandson, the young Andur Sunrider. During Andur's formative years, Jev imparted extensive knowledge of the Jedi Order's history and lore, as well as the ongoing struggle against the dark side of the Force. Inspired by his grandfather's teachings, Andur resolved to follow in Jev's footsteps and become a Jedi when he matured.
Around 4008 BBY, on the day preceding Andur's twelfth birthday, Jev and three other Jedi Masters embarked on a mission from Darada to the nearby star system of Krayiss Two. There, they encountered a growing dark side influence, and the mission tragically resulted in the deaths of all four Jedi. In the months that followed their departure, no communication was received from Jev or his companions. This absence plunged young Andur into despair, fearing that he would never see his grandfather again. However, approximately one year after his departure for Krayiss Two, Jev's Force ghost materialized before Andur while he tended to his father's garden. Initially, Andur was frightened by the spectral figure, but Jev's ghost reassured him, urging him to calm himself and release his fear. At that moment, Jev revealed to Andur that he was destined to play a significant role in a coming war and that he should embrace the path that the Force had set for him. Before Andur could respond, Jev's ghost vanished, leaving his grandson to contemplate his words.
After the death of his grandfather, Andur dedicated himself entirely to mastering the ways of the Force. Eventually, he accepted an invitation from Jev's old friend Chamma to study under him on the planet of H'ratth. Years later, Jev's prophecy to his grandson came to pass when Andur was killed by criminals working for Bogga the Hutt. As his grandfather had done for him, Andur appeared as a Force ghost to his wife, Nomi, encouraging her to take up his lightsaber and defend herself and their child, Vima. Andur's appearance as a Force ghost inspired Nomi to embark on the path of Jedi knighthood, and she played a pivotal role in the defeat of the Sith and Krath forces during the Great Sith War.
Jev Sunrider possessed extensive knowledge of the Jedi Order's history and shared much of this wisdom with his young grandson, Andur. As a Jedi Watchman, Jev was also keenly aware of the ongoing conflict between the Jedi and the followers of the dark side of the Force. He reinforced Andur's education by constantly reminding the young boy of the battles between the forces of light and darkness. These teachings and influences led Andur to decide early in life to follow in his grandfather's footsteps and become a Jedi.
The character of Jev Sunrider was conceived by author George R. Strayton for the 1996 West End Games roleplaying game source book Tales of the Jedi Companion. Jev was mentioned only briefly in the source book, with a few sentences incorporated into Andur Sunrider's entry to provide backstory for his grandson.
While Tales of the Jedi Companion made reference to Andur Sunrider's father, who lived at the Sunrider family home on Darada, it did not explicitly state that Jev Sunrider was his father.
