John Boyega

John Boyega, an English actor, was born on March 17, 1992. He is well known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Biography

His casting in the sequel trilogy was initially made public on April 29, 2014. He also participated in Star Wars Forces of Destiny and several Star Wars video games. After posting a Twitter message criticizing the absence of a story campaign in Star Wars Battlefront, Boyega presented a trailer for Star Wars Battlefront II.

In 2019, Boyega moved apartments and inadvertently left a script for Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker under his bed. A cleaner discovered it a few weeks later and, unaware of its importance, listed it on eBay for $84. A resourceful Disney employee bought the script, averting a significant leak. Nevertheless, Boyega described the incident as "scary."

Following the death of George Floyd, John Boyega delivered a speech at a Black Lives Matter protest in Hyde Park, London. His speech garnered praise from other celebrities, including Mark Hamill, a fellow Star Wars actor, J.J. Abrams, a director, and Lucasfilm.

Boyega has openly voiced his criticism regarding his involvement in the sequel trilogy. During a 2020 interview with GQ, he stated: "You get involved in projects, and you're not always going to be happy with everything. [But] what I would like to say to Disney is: don't introduce a black character, promote them as being far more crucial to the franchise than they actually are, and then relegate them to the sidelines. That's not right. I'm being blunt."
