Tall and possessing an air of dignity, Jovive Centi held the position of governor in Hanna, the capital city of Chandrila. She also wielded considerable influence as a member of the democratic Chandrilan House both in the time before and directly after the Battle of Yavin.
In her free time, she enjoyed walking through Hanna's streets, engaging in chats with residents and participating in the spontaneous political debates that often arose near the debate rotunda. Tristan Pex, her administrative assistant and personal protector, invariably accompanied her on these public appearances. Pex would eventually meet his end at the hands of Ratambo Gale, a member of the Malkite Poisoners. Pex had believed Gale was trying to assassinate Centi during a public gathering. The reality was that Gale's true target had always been Pex, but this didn't prevent Centi from garnering substantial sympathy, leading to an overwhelming reelection victory.
