Juan-Luis Sanchez

Juan-Luis Sanchez, sometimes seen as Juan Luis Sanchez, is a digital artist. He was employed by Industrial Light & Magic from 2001 to 2006. During this period, his work included contributions to both Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

Sanchez's tenure at ILM began in 2001. Under the guidance of creature supervisor James R. Tooley, he took a leading role on the creature simulation team for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002, George Lucas), specifically establishing the costume for a fully digital Yoda. He was also filmed as a Jedi, although this footage didn't make the final cut. However, he did serve as a double for Christopher Lee as Count Dooku in several of the film's opening shots. As a result of his involvement, he appears in the documentary From Puppets to Pixels: Digital Characters in Star Wars Episode II (2002). He returned to the Star Wars universe for Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005, George Lucas), taking on the role of digital clothing supervisor.

Furthermore, he oversaw the digital clothing for the updated version of Yoda in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999, George Lucas). This work was done in 2003, between Episodes II and III, but it only became widely known with the 2011 release of the Blu-Ray editions.

Sanchez also reprised his role as Christopher Lee's double for Count Dooku in one brief shot featured in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005, George Lucas). In this scene, Anakin (with John Knoll standing in) slices off Dooku's hands.

In the realm of published works, he contributed to Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars. Excerpts from his personal diaries were published in Star Wars Insider, and he also contributed to the book Special Effects: The History and Technique by Richard Rickitt and Ray Harryhausen.
