Kan Pojo
Before the events of the Battle of Naboo, Kan Pojo served as a lieutenant within the ranks of the Republic Navy. Pojo was known for his exceptional marksmanship, having earned the title of shooting champion for the fleet while using various weapons. Additionally, he worked as the arms instructor on the training ship called the Overt. Sometime between the years of 40 and 35 BBY, Pojo and the Overt were dispatched to the Vergesso Asteroids to reclaim a moon that had fallen under the control of pirates. Republic soldiers made planetfall in the moon's only city, where Pojo and his troops swiftly routed the pirates. Pojo pursued two unarmed pirates into a dead end, and, overconfident in his skills, gave them the opportunity to attack him before he opened fire. Despite shooting the first pirate as they charged, Pojo's blaster failed, resulting in the other pirate fatally stabbing him.
Biography
Prior to 40 BBY, Kan Pojo enlisted in the Republic Navy and achieved the rank of lieutenant. He was a highly skilled marksman, recognized as the fleet champion in the use of diverse weaponry, ranging from blaster carbines to sniper rifles. He also held the position of small-arms instructor aboard the Galactic Republic training vessel, the Overt. Sometime between 40 and 35 BBY, Pojo and the Overt were ordered to the Vergesso Asteroids to address a pirate group that had seized control of a moon within the system.
Approximately 120 pirates were stationed within the moon's enclosed city. Due to the potential risk of damaging the protective dome and exposing the moon to the vacuum of space, only small arms, such as blasters, were authorized for use. Pojo, along with naval adjunct Jaim Helaw, encountered a group of approximately two dozen pirates and began eliminating them with his blaster. Within seconds, half of the pirates were dead, causing the remaining pirates to scatter and flee.
Pojo and Helaw pursued a group of four pirates, and after the pirates separated, they also split up. Helaw eliminated the two pirates he was chasing, while Pojo cornered the other two. The pirates' blasters were depleted of power packs, rendering them defenseless. However, Pojo surprisingly holstered his blaster and presented the pirates with an offer. He would allow them to charge at him, fully aware that a missed shot could result in his death. The pirates attacked, but Pojo swiftly shot one of them dead.
However, when he attempted to fire upon the second pirate, his blaster malfunctioned. Pojo immediately attempted to draw his backup weapon, but the pirate reached him before he could react. The pirate stabbed Pojo with a knife, resulting in his death. Helaw subsequently shot the pirate, but it was too late to save Pojo. Decades later, Helaw recounted this story to Admiral Conan Antonio Motti to illustrate the inherent flaws in machinery and how increasing complexity can lead to a higher likelihood of failure.
Personality and traits
Jaim Helaw regarded Kan Pojo as the most skilled shooter he had ever encountered, and it was said that Pojo could accurately shoot flies off a wall from a distance of ten meters. Pojo's exceptional shooting ability was acknowledged through his status as the Republic fleet champion with a diverse range of weapons. However, his shooting prowess became irrelevant when his blaster malfunctioned, leading to his demise. His arrogance and belief in his invincibility contributed to his fate, as Pojo's overconfidence led him to offer the pirates a chance to kill him.
