Jaim Helaw

Admiral Jaim Helaw, a Human male, distinguished himself as a seasoned officer within the Imperial Navy, having participated in numerous significant conflicts throughout his service. As captain of the _Imperial_-class Star Destroyer Undauntable, his life came to an end when the vessel was destroyed by sabotage in 0 BBY.

Biography

Early in his career, as a young second lieutenant serving in the Republic Navy, Helaw took part in an operation aimed at eliminating a pirate stronghold situated within the Vergesso Asteroids. Approximately 120 pirates had fortified themselves inside a domed settlement on one of the system's moons. Helaw led a team to engage and neutralize the pirates in intense close-quarters combat. Helaw's squad successfully overcame a force of around 25 pirates, but this victory came at the cost of Kan Pojo's life.

Later, Helaw achieved the rank of captain aboard the Ion Storm, where he first encountered Conan Antonio Motti, who had recently been promoted to first lieutenant. Their relationship endured, and they remained close friends until Helaw's demise. Helaw chose to remain a front-line officer throughout his career, even though Motti attempted to persuade him to enter the political sphere on Imperial Center. Consequently, Motti eventually surpassed his former superior in rank, yet he always recognized Helaw's potential as a Moff.

Eventually, Helaw was promoted to the rank of admiral and commanded the Undauntable as part of the Sector Fleet under Motti's authority, tasked with safeguarding the construction of the Death Star. He had intended to retire soon after the project's completion, but his life was cut short when a Rebel operative detonated a cargo container filled with explosives, which had been secretly placed in the ship's rear cargo bay. The Undauntable was destroyed, with all crew members, including Helaw, perishing in the event.

The incident was subsequently concealed under the orders of Grand Moff Tarkin, with the reluctant cooperation of Motti and Admiral Daala. Tarkin made this decision because he desired complete control over the Death Star and did not want Vader to visit the station again and "complicate matters." Therefore, the destruction of the Undauntable was presented as an accident, and Helaw was posthumously blamed, thus damaging his otherwise excellent record. Despite the ship's age, it had been meticulously maintained under his command. Initially, Motti hesitated to damage his friend's reputation, but Tarkin contended that Helaw, a dedicated Navy officer, would have prioritized the Navy's best interests. Though unconvinced, Motti understood that Tarkin could simply issue a direct order, so he conceded and assisted in covering up the sabotage.
