KE-829 was the identifier given to a stormtrooper clone who fought for the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. This trooper was stationed on the first Death Star in the days leading up to the Battle of Yavin, where the battle station was ultimately obliterated by the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
During the Galactic Civil War, a conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, a Human clone with the designation KE-829 served as a stormtrooper in the Imperial Military. He was among the soldiers present aboard the first Death Star in the days preceding its destruction at the Battle of Yavin, and by the time the Millennium Falcon arrived at the battle station, he was performing guard duty in the vicinity of Tractor Beam 12.
When the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi disabled the tractor beam to facilitate the Millennium Falcon's departure from Docking Bay 327, he overheard KE-829 in conversation with another trooper regarding the BT-16 perimeter droid. After successfully completing his mission, Kenobi employed the Force to confuse the troopers, thereby enabling his escape from the area. Specifically, Kenobi deceived KE-829 into believing that something was behind them, eventually attributing the perceived presence to mere outgassing.
The non-canon comic book Tag & Bink Are Dead 1 retroactively altered the story, identifying KE-829 and his partner as Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna.
