Ken Ralston


Kenneth Ralston contributed as a concept artist and visual effects artist to the original trilogy of Star Wars.

Ken Ralston was among the first to be employed by Industrial Light & Magic. George Lucas initially hired him through Dennis Muren. On A New Hope, he was one of three assistant cameramen for the Miniature and Optical Effects Unit. He then became one of two effects cameramen for the same unit on The Empire Strikes Back. Later, he took on the role of Visual Effects Supervisor for Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

Within the original trilogy, Ralston is credited with hiding the tennis shoe and potato easter eggs.

Ralston's signature appears on the limited edition of the upcoming hardcover book, The Art of Ralph McQuarrie. He has also been featured in interviews within Lucasfilm Magazine 41 and Star Wars Insider 67. Furthermore, he provided interior artwork for Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas.

In addition, Ralston's contributions to visual effects have earned him a total of five Academy Awards and five British Academy Awards.
